Global
Business Services (GBS) is a
certified women-owned consulting
company dedicated to international economic and educational development.
GBS provides a wide range of consulting and advisory services to
governments, the private sector, non-governmental organizations (NGOs),
multilateral agencies and individuals.
Established
in 2006, with the vision to become a major player in global economic
development, GBS provides unique consulting services through subject
matter experts who can make any project successful through their
knowledge, years of experience, and technical skills.
GBS has been growing steadily as it is focused on
projects that make a difference in the world. The principals of the
company, Asmaa Jamil, Gerlinda Melchiori, Laurie Landy and
Majida Rashid all have over 20 years of experience in higher
education, international economic policy analysis, entrepreneurship and
SME development, international finance and economic development project
design and execution. Clients have included the University of Michigan,
the International Business School (IBS) in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, the
OECD, US AID, the U.S. Department of State, Carana Corporation, JE
Austin and Associates, IBM Consulting and Bayhdole25, to name a few.

· Asmaa Jamil – President -
Asmaa Jamil is the president of Global Business Services (GBS). Ms.
Jamil has a distinguished 22-year career in the financial services,
operation management, business training, recruitment and selection,
customer service, reporting methodologies, strategic planning, fraud
analysis, cultural research, risk management, project management,
monitor and evaluation, business communication, workshop facilitation,
database development and management, international business strategy,
process analysis and improvement, and entrepreneurship business
planning. She also has polished leadership skills, works well in team
environment, is able to work with all levels of management as well as
employees, appreciates multi-cultural environments, responsible and has
the ability to follow through commitments and projects.
As an entrepreneur, Ms. Jamil created GBS as a
women-owned consulting group that serves the needs of developing
countries in economic change. Within GBS, Ms. Jamil has consulted on
diverse projects of United States (US) government grants from USAID or
U.S. Department of State Citizen Exchange Bureau focused on the Middle
East and North Africa (MENA) with the University of Michigan Dearborn,
American Arab Chamber of Commerce, Detroit Regional Chamber, and
American Arab Women’s Business Council. Through these projects, Ms.
Jamil has created and managed an applicant database for Yemen internship
program in the US; co-developed entrepreneurship program for Yemen;
co-taught entrepreneurship seminar for two weeks in Yemen; developed
monitor and evaluation process for Yemen entrepreneurship program;
created and managed an applicant database for MENA women program;
recruited, selected, and interviewed women in the MENA region for
internships/fellowships in the US; developed cultural program for MENA
women and their respective hosts in United States; created programs for
internships/fellowships for MENA women project; monitored and evaluated
MENA women program; and monitored and evaluated an educational project
in Libya. These projects have focused on entrepreneurship, educational
programs, women in science and technology where the work has integrated
preparing material of theoretical and real life business experiences.
Ms. Jamil is also currently a Project Manager for
Daimler Financial Services AG where she is responsible for the project
master plan, risks, issues and actions, quality management, and
executive reports to assess project issues and develop resolutions to
meet goals and objectives. Ms. Jamil also maintains and monitors and
evaluates the project’s progress and manages an integrated change
control within project. In addition, Ms. Jamil also facilitates
workshops focused on process development, creation of specifications,
and gap analysis. Through this project, Ms. Jamil works with ITM,
various vendors, and other company dependent projects to ensure
effective operating mode. Ms. Jamil also assists leadership to promote
clear and attainable project objectives for pilot implementation while
working with project controller to manager all project budgets.

· Gerlinda Melchiori, Ph.D. – Senior Consultant - Following a
successful career of various academic leadership positions at the
University of Michigan, Gerlinda Melchiori has now served for 14 years
as international consultant both for the University of Michigan/William
Davidson Institute and several international consulting firms. She has
carried out organizational development for institutions of higher
education, research facilities, health care systems, and social and
environmental organizations. Her clients included prestigious American
private universities, such as Harvard, MIT and Boston University, public
institutions, such as the several Big Ten universities, as well as
worked for a variety of organizations in Asia, Australia, Europe, the
Middle East and South America. Her specific expertise is consulting in
all areas of domestic and international development of organizations,
incl. administrative assessments and goal setting, fundraising and
campaign strategies, corporate and foundation relations, as well as
Board and staff development.
Most
recently (2006), her work concentrated on improving institutions in
emerging economies such as the Czech Republic, Ukraine, Uzbekistan,
Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan. A rather challenging assignment
(2007) was serving for several months as interim rector at the leading
International School of Finance and Business in Rwanda to initiate major
changes needed to bring this university up to international standards,
and serving this post-genocide country in its quest for developing
sustainable businesses and services. She is currently working with
clients in Austria (Life Sciences) and Germany (non-profit) on
management and fundraising issues.
Her
international background, language skills and degrees in both business
and higher education management, have made her an effective consultant
in very diverse settings. As the author of various books on non-profit
management and fundraising, she is a sought-after consultant on
cross-cultural corporate and educational training.

Laurie
Landy – Senior
Consultant - Most recently Ms. Landy was a Senior Advisor to the
Emerging Markets Practice of BearingPoint Ltd. She was involved in a
wide range of assignments connected with BearingPoint’s contract
relations with USAID. She served as the BearingPoint Manager for two
multi-faceted USAID Contracts for Serbia. Ms. Landy was also involved in
BearingPoint’s large Contract in Iraq. Another important contribution
was her initiation of BearingPoint’s Monitoring and Evaluation work. She
was part of the team of experts for Emerging Markets’ Monitoring and
Evaluation activities.
Thus she
has had the unique experience of working in a technical assistance
management capacity as both a USAID Officer (on both the program and
technical sides), and as a manager for a USAID contractor. She is
thoroughly familiar with USAID rules, regulations and processes, and has
had extensive experience designing, implementing and managing complex
technical assistance programs for more than fifteen years.
Prior to
joining USAID Ms. Landy had fifteen years experience in the financial
sector. She worked as an economist at both the Federal Reserve Bank of
New York and in the international departments of Commercial Banks in the
U.S. and Canada. During the 1980s she was a member of the commercial
bank rescheduling committee (London Club) for Yugoslav and Romanian
foreign debt obligations.
While
working at commercial banks and USAID Ms. Landy traveled extensively to
countries in Eastern and Central Europe and the Former Soviet Union as
well as to countries in the Middle East (Israel, Turkey) and Africa
(Senegal, The Gambia). (TOP)

Majida Rashid - Senior Consultant
-
Majida Rashid is a multilingual consultant and project
management expert adept at developing new businesses in new and
emerging markets. Majida has helped high level teams in the
private and public sectors clarify goals and develop realistic
solutions especially in unfamiliar business environments and new
cultural contexts. Having lived and worked in the Middle East
and Africa for 27 years, she has extensive understanding of
cultural, political, socioeconomic aspects of both regions.
As a research analyst, she is easily able to identify gaps
between a business's offerings and market and consumers trends
that result in gaining market share.
Majida’s expertise include analytical problem solving locally
and internationally, facilitation of high level teams, industry
research, consumer and competitor research, focus groups, data
analysis, communications strategies, local and international
event planning and management, public speaking, write-ups for
multiple audiences.
Majida’s worked in Adayana, Inc., in Minneapolis and
Afghanistan, University of Michigan in Michigan, Howard
Associates in Washington DC, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Zambia;
Moulinex, BTI and Bahrain New Zealand Group in Bahrain and other
GCC regions.
Majida is a published author since 1987. Her academic, technical
and business articles have appeared in major weekly publications
and daily newspapers in Michigan, Bahrain, the United Arab
Emirates and Botswana.
